Sitting at a coffee shop, I was recently reading about the latest trends in the fashion world. There were the usual crystals, drapes, sequences, et al but the look and the feel seemed different. The designs had not only evolved and had become more intricate and sleeker but the overall drapery, the use of fabric, and the drama around the layered fabrics had calmed down. The designer of a particular outfit had mentioned how minimalism was being followed<\/a> by all in the wake of sustainability and resource optimization.<\/p>\n

Pondering the thought, I looked around and the coffee shop<\/a> had handmade quotes framed on the walls covered by wallpapers, the chairs, and the tables allowed seating of at max 8 people, and the tissues, sugar packets, and toothpicks were limited in number with recyclable packaging. The caf\u00e9 menu had just four coffee, three desserts, and three savoury options. I too was reading the article on my tablet as against on a paper cover magazine made out of a lot of printed pages. Minimalism seemed to hit me strongly.<\/p>\n

To speak in layman\u2019s terms, Minimalism<\/a> is the art of leading life or carrying out activities by utilizing an optimal number of resources and consuming the bare minimum for survival. It does not promote living stingily but rides on the principles of frugality to better utilize the available resources and just the amount that was actually required. Many people have a minimal wardrobe with a fixed number of clothing and other products of vanity in stock. Many do not stock up on food grains, fruits, or other household items. Houses have put up a cap rate<\/a> on their daily water consumption as well. Several businesses have been following the path of minimalism for quite a few years now and the number has exponentially increased post the recent pandemic phase.<\/p>\n

Businesses are saving on office spacing by opting for Work From Home options, having compact office spaces, or even utilizing shared office spaces. By this, they are also saving up on fuel costs, electricity, water, security systems, cafeteria facilities, office staff salaries, travel expenses, internet facilities, travel time, and much more! There have been reports that several businesses that opted for the minimalism model were able to elevate their profits and share the same with the employees with happiness.
